Artist's Comments EDIT: The fanfiction is here! [link] Go read it!  EDIT 2: No, Blossom is NOT pregnant again - she's just had a foal, which is why she's still rather big! You can't expect her tummy to just snap back into place straight away.  She was much bigger than this whilst she was pregnant, I just didn't draw her. So, no, there are no more foals on the way!   Remember this picture I uploaded in February with a pregnant Blossom in it? Well guess what? She had a little colt!!  Everyone, please welcome baby Rowan to the Papillio herd.  As you can see, Pierce is one proud father! I can't wait to draw more of this family - I love them to bits. My sister (*TsukiJewels) gifted me with a little story for them which she will upload to her account. In the meantime, here's a tiny excerpt from it:Rowan tottered closer to Pierce, looking as enthralled as his father. “Daddy!” he declared in a high, clear voice, gazing up at him expectantly. Dazedly, Pierce lowered his head and closed his eyes when he felt the small, soft nose nuzzle against him, overwhelmed by emotion... If you want to read more, keep an eye on her account! Critiques
I think Blossom's belly is very well drawn. She has that classic "broodmare belly" without looking overdone or exaggerated. The musculature on her legs is also excellent - your anatomy skills seem to improve with every piece while still being instantly recognizable as "Boribaby Style" hehehe. And Pierce looks every bit the stallion with his broad chest and muscular neck. Love the bits of fuzziness that you've added to the colt as well.
The sky was the first thing that grabbed my attention in this picture...it looks like it came straight from a classical Renaissance painter. All the background colors are so soft and serene and really add to the overall mood of the piece. The flowers are a great touch of detail, too. They make the field look more believable than just a stretch of bright green grassland.
My only complaint would have to be Pierce's nose, as Lynn-Z pointed out. It's a bit confusing to look at and I think if the shading of the nostril was darkened it would help give his muzzle more of a 3D appearance to match with the rest of him.
All in all, another beautiful and touching scene. Great work Michelle.
Three out of the four things I notice have already been mentioned: Pierce's nose, Rowan's legs, and Blossom's belly. I haven't looked to see if this was mentioned but the mare's front legs are a bit....off. Her right front leg should be a but higher to give it some dimension. It's a bit confusing and looks like she has two left front legs instead of one on each side.
I hope that wasn't harsh for my first critique! >_<
